About the Walk of Fame

Walk of FameThe Hollywood Walk of Fame is located on the sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, California and close to other popular tourist stops like Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theater. The Walk of fame was constructed in the 1960's with 2,500 stars. At the time, the majority of the stars were dedicated to entertainers of the past, which left 948 blank stars. Today, there are 2,400 awarded stars located along the sidewalks that run about 1.3 miles and serve as a monument of achievement to certain workers in the entertainment industry. The people awarded stars on the Walk of Fame are entertainment professionals such as actors, producers, directors, musicians and fictional characters.

Over 10 million people come to see the Hollywood Walk of Fame each year. The five pointed stars used, as monuments are pink, composed of brass and charcoal and have the name of the recipient in the star's upper portion. There are different symbols on the star to indicate a particular entertainment field. These symbols include a television set for broadcast television, a film camera for motion pictures and a microphone to indicate broadcast radio.
